CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES WITH ROAVR

LATEST VACANCY:
Principal Ecologist –
Work from Home (Midlands/Oxfordshire/West London Based)
Full-time | Flexible Work | Senior Management Role - upto £55,000
Tired of endless nights in the field?
Want to use your expertise to lead, mentor, and actually shape a team?
We get it. You’ve been out there, in the mud, chasing bats, juggling deadlines, and probably surviving on service station sandwiches. You’ve put in the graft, and now you’re ready for something different—something where your experience actually matters beyond just writing another report.
That’s where ROAVR Group comes in.
We’re a tech-driven, progressive, innovative ecology consultancy. Our team is scattered across the UK, with a head office in Inverness, but we work remotely, making a real difference without getting bogged down in corporate nonsense. We’re looking for a Principal Ecologist to lead, mentor, and guide our team—bringing quality, structure, and expertise to our growing business.
What’s the job?
- Quality control of reports—helping our junior team members level up their work.
- Providing expert advice to both clients and our in-house sales team on complex projects.
- Handling tricky ecological queries—you know, the ones that make everyone panic.
- Supporting our ecologists across the UK—mentoring, guiding, and troubleshooting when they need help.
- A bit of fieldwork if you fancy it—but no pressure if you’re happy staying desk-based.
- Being part of our senior management team, meeting in Inverness every three months (yes, we’ll cover travel).
- Working from home, but with occasional travel for site visits, client meetings, or team events.
What we’re looking for:
- You’re an experienced ecologist who knows their stuff.
- You’ve got a protected species licence (or three) under your belt.
- You know BS 42020, BNG, UKHab and all the usual ecological regs inside and out.
- You actually enjoy helping others—mentoring, teaching, and making sure work meets a high standard.
- You’re a problem solver—able to tackle tricky planning, licensing, and survey challenges.
- You’re based within 100 miles of London (we’d love to have you close enough for occasional meet-ups and site visits with our ecologists).
- You’re tech-savvy (we use a lot of cool tools to make our lives easier).
- You are based in Berkshire, Oxfordshire or the West Midlands.
Why join ROAVR?
- No rigid office hours—work when you work best.
- A role with purpose—you’re not just churning out reports; you’re guiding the next generation of ecologists.
- Home-based with proper flexibility—no commuting stress.
- Competitive salary (£45,000 - £55,000) plus benefits.
- Joining bonus of £1500 - to be paid after a successful 3 month probationary period.
- Regular team meet-ups in Inverness (because we like to stay connected, not just on Zoom).
- A company that actually cares—about our people, our clients, and the planet.
If you’re looking for a job where you can make a real impact, help others grow, and still keep your hand in the ecological world (without the constant 4am starts!), we’d love to hear from you.

We are currently recruiting for seasonal FE-Xs for the 2025 survey season and also a lead Ecologist to be based in the southeast or Midlands.
We offer competitive rates of pay.

Lead in to a FE-I role for the right individual
How To Apply.
Send an email to loren@roavr-group.co.uk
Include your full postal address, email, mobile telephone no.
Include your current CV or list of experience (this can be unrelated)
Detail on any previous field survey experience (licence, hours logged, training undertaken)
Counties you are prepared to work in

Final Steps - So You Can Work For ROAVR
Once we have your details and have carried out our initial checks you will be added to our database system for job allocations for external field ecologists.
Depending on your experience you will be required to attend a half-day training session on ROAVR process and procedures.
You will finally be sent a sub-contractor agreement and NDA to sign then you are ready to go!
We will hire people with little or no experience in FE-I roles as we realise that's how you get started - BUT in return we expect your initial email to us to be clean, clear and concise with no spelling or grammar errors.
We are looking for people that are passionate, driven, take Extreme Ownership and ask good questions. If that sounds like you then drop us an email to support@roavr-group.co.uk
If you are interested in our senior/lead ecologist role then please email loren@roavr-group.co.uk with LEAD ECOLOGIST in the subject line.

Seasonal Survey Assistants -
Bats (SSA-B)
Each year, right across the U.K ROAVR undertakes 100's of dusk and dawn bat activity surveys to gain evidence on the presence or absence of bats in buildings undergoing demolition or material change.
In order to carry out these surveys we have a requirement for seasonal and sub-contract staff. These roles range from seasonal survey assistants (SSAs), to seasonal survey leads (SSLs).
The roles involve selecting as few or as many surveys suit your own personal circumstances. If you are not familiar with the work then full training can be given. The work typically involves up to 1 hr of travel to the site and then 2.5 hrs on-site monitoring bat activity in line with the Bat Conservation Trusts guidance.
Information is recorded on survey sheets and then photographed and uploaded to our 'smart portal'.
During the 2024 season which typically ran from May to September, we employed up to ten SSAs across the U.K but the bulk of the survey work tends to be in the southeast.
Pay.
We recognise that in this role you may be early on in your career or a very experienced seasonal batworker. As such we have several pay grades depending on your experience and role on the survey.
SSA - £72.00 per survey
SSL - £115.00 per survey
Assume 2.5 hrs on-site and 1.5-2 hrs travelling.
Mileage is paid at 0.45p per mile.
These fees are fixed and non-negotiable, if you feel you have the experience to manage 2-3 surveys at a single site then let us know and we can assign you the site project manager (SPM) role for that project. Weekend working is possible.
Our fees to our customers are FIXED this means that these rates are also fixed.
Training & Opportunities.
Wherever possible, we like to retain top quality SSAs and SSLs across multiple seasons and there are also opportunities to progress to field ecologists and ecologist roles once you graduate in a related field.
If you need upskilling we can arrange that in April each year before the survey season commences. Shadowing opportunities are available with more experienced consultants as we recognise how hard it can be to obtain a start in this area.
